One of my favourite phrases of recent times is, “do you remember when we used to talk about how quiet Paul Scholes was?” Well, I blooming well miss those days when Scholesy used to disappear home after a game ignoring the press and you’d never hear a peep.
It’s not really like that anymore, you have noticed.
Paul Scholes hit out at Paul Pogba after Manchester United had a terrible day out by the seaside on Sunday, losing 3-2 at Brighton. His attack was based around ‘the lack of leaders’ in the United team and he was critical of Pogba’s performance.
This stirred Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola who suggested Scholes should become United’s new Sporting Director and advise Ed Woodward to sell his French client – hmmm, I wonder why Mino. Do you have your eye on a new motor, by chance?
Either way, and even if Scholes does have a point, it would be nice to hear a little less from him as he just does not command the same respect as Gary Neville when it comes to all things United and gabbing off.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is getting linked to all the sane management jobs in football. First Aston Villa and now Bordeaux in France. If you are wondering what makes the Bordeaux job such a hot potato, they suspended Gus Poyet for losing his shit in a press conference when the board sold a player without telling him and Gus was waiting for him to arrive at the team hotel for an away match. Don’t take it Thierry, don’t take it – even if that does feel less mad than another campaign with Bobby Martinez.
Real Madrid don’t seem to have accepted that Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has said NO to them and are still planning a cunning move. But first, they are going to flirt with his friend Marcos Alonso to make Eden jealous, before declaring their undying love for the Belgian.
Anthony Martial is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now at Manchester United. He is being given the odd chance to prove he is good enough for Jose, but he is perpetually unable to take these chances given his dislike for his boss. Yet, he loves United and Manchester and doesn’t really want to leave. What is Anthony to do? Maybe he should decide in the next eight days or so and take a retreat in Serie A and Juventus, or something.
Manchester City are almost regretting selling Joe Hart following Claudio Bravo’s injury, but the emphasis in that sentence is very much on the almost. Peppy G is said to be trying to convince UEFA that an emergency loan is in order and might try to persuade Barcelona’s Jasper Cillesen that the substitute seats at the Etihad are far superior to the ones in the Camp Nou.
West Ham United have convinced Reece Oxford that he has a future at the club and are so willing to show him that they are telling the truth that they are lining up another plane ticket to Germany, Spain or even France just to prove how serious they are about building a team around him. Oxford is set for another one-year loan to continue his development which actually makes sense when you think about it – far better to learn your trade away from the club I guess.
Finally today, more news to cheer up the Newcastle United fans. Rafa Benitez had actually been given the green light for two deadline day deals only to see them fall through. But don’t worry folks, it is unlikely you’d have even known who Lille left-back Hamza Mendyl was or even PSG’s Stanley N’Soki for that matter.
