Marcelo Bielsa has made history with a 2-0 win over the second-biggest club in Yorkshire, Rotherham United.
It was the most Leeds United history breaking record there could be. The first time ever a manager has won his first four games. It really seems amazing that it’s the first time it has happened.
Nonetheless, four games, four wins, and of course according to every other fan, we have won the league already. Well, we have and you must accept it.
Phil Parkinson said after the defeat to Leeds in the cup in the week: “When you look at the changes they made, one of those was Patrick Bamford who cost seven million.” Bamford is still on the bench now due to the exceptional form of Kemar Roofe.
The performance on Saturday was far from perfect. For 45 minutes Leeds really struggled to break them down. After Brentford pummelled Rotherham opening day, I think it was unrealistic to suggest Paul Warne would let that happen again.
To be honest, it was the most Leeds United thing ever for a lot of us to genuinely believe we might lose to Rotherham! Fortunately for us, Bielsa is a tactical genius.
If we go into the games so far: Stoke was just a team of overpaid dossers that have no idea what the Championship is about. Derby was always going to be a tougher test on paper. At the end of the day though, Frank Lampard is unproven. He was never going to be able to out-do Bielsa tactically.
It was clear that Warne’s tactics were to hold us out as long as possible. They tried to keep Saiz out of the game. They got quite a lot of success by doing this and troubled Leeds themselves.
At this point, I did gain visions of the normal Leeds United and see us conceding a truly stupid goal. Fortunately, Bielsa is clearly threatening to throw C-4 on the pitch if that happens.
What is crazy is two players we are relying on most are Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips. For the record, I have 100% always said they are Premier League standard and nothing less. If you are not aware of Liam Cooper, that is because fans named him ‘League One Liam’ last season.
Cooper has had his doubters but he’s really led by example thus far. Phillips I have never liked to criticise. He’s a young Leeds lad that has had to prove himself at a very difficult level with no one better above him. Therefore people expect a lot more from him. Again, however, he is proving people wrong with inspiring performances.
I cannot believe I am here talking so highly of a squad that was bottom of the form table for a worryingly long period of time last season. But yes, I am.
In the build-up to the Roofe goal, I’m sure half the stadium were yelling to clear the effing ball. I’m sorry, it’s just we do not expect us to be able to pass from the back and play good football. It proves how poor the coaching on them has been.
It is to the point where I have seen several Man United fans on Twitter annoyed we are playing attractive football as Mourinho won’t!
I have to say I really don’t know what is going on and it is far too early to tell. Can we play like this for another 43 games? Wow, I keep forgetting what this frustrating league entails. You would think I’d be used to it by now.
